Before Bodyboards appeared on the scene ancient Hawaiians had been riding wooden Paipos for centuries. Check out this unknown Paipo rider at Pipe in ’79, this guy is hardcore and keeping the Hawaiian tradition alive..

Heres Perce charging with his full face Gath Helmet on at The Island. Some say the pull down visor helped your vision inside the barrel , more of a gimic than anything else and seemed to disappear out of the lineup pretty quick. Photo Chris Stroh early 90′s.

This is what happens when you get a bunch of guys in a hotel room after a long day of waves and a few beers. This South Coast trip consisted of Mike Stewart, Hauoli Reeves, Ross Hawke, Macca and George K. It ended up in a house wrecker. Muzza was one of the most stylish and talented bodyboarders to come out of the Port MacQuarie area in the early 90′s. DK or prone Adam was outstanding and was regarded as a small wave maestro who won his share of State and Aus Titles. Muzza is a talented artist and gifted musician. In this early 80′s Cheetah advertisement Queenslands Cheryl Dombrowski is charging at G Land. Cheryl was one of Australia’s first serious girl bodyboarders.

Check the image below taken in ’81. This was high performance bodyboarding for the time. Riders like Daniel Kaimi were pulling tricks like this, the first version of the spinner, or spinning the board underneath them and basically ad libbing and making it up as they went.
