This shot of young Mason lip floating the foam at Lighthouse Beach at Port MacQuarie was when the naturally skilled dropknee rider was just beginning to make a name for himself around ’98 for his explosive talent. This pic of Guilherme Tamega was taken in Australia around ’88. Just a fresh faced kid competing against the likes of Stewart, Severson , Sasaki and Reale. Around 5 years later Tamega won his first of many World Titles. Photo Stroh

When this unusual shot was snapped back in the early 2000′s young rippers Mitch Hall, Johno Bruce, Mitch Rawlins and  Nelson Ross were the future stars of Aussie and World bodyboarding. These kids looked certain to be the next generation monopolising the pro tour circuit and possible future world champion contenders. A decade later surprisingly out of the four only Mitch Rawlins has made a major impact  in the sport. Hall and Nelson lost interest while Johno formed a band.Photo MC.

Mike Stewart on the cover of Bodyboarding Magazine getting barreled with his  helmet-cam in ’94. Stewarts unique camera angels inside barrels inspired many others to go out and attempt to imitate his ground breaking tube rides.

From the Big Island of Hawaii the cool and casual Skipper had one of the cleanest and most natural styles in the sport. Skip’s riding was hailed as close to perfect by many drooling grommets throughout the latter half of the 90′s. A standout in all conditions the Hawaiian charger excelled best when things got heavier. Its almost surprising that the gifted bodyboarder who dominates many star studded sessions at the Worlds most photographed reef  has yet to capture a Pipe Title. From West Oz ,Chad first began making a name for himself through Chris White’s Tension videos in the late 90′s. Since those days of madness and slapstick humour Chad has stepped up to another level. The West Oz prankster began charging some of the most mutant and life threatening outer reefs on this planet. Scoring some of the biggest waves ever ridden by  bodyboarders. The pic below taken at Pipe in early 2000′s caught Chad mid flight a second or two before he copped a brutal pounding resulting in a stuffed back and months of recuperation.Photo Stroh

Ash and Adam {Muzza} Murray were the the talk of the Ausie bodyboard scene in Australia. The pair were contest machines who honed their skills in the highly competitive Port MacQuarie area. The brothers went on to capture numerous NSW and Aussie titles. Adam and Ash both loved their dropknee and out at their beloved Breakwall they were standouts. Here Ash blasts a turn at Northwall. Photo Chris Stroh early 90′s.

In the early 90′s Changa from Newcastle a tough working class area on the mid north coast of NSW was one of the best and most fiercest competitors in the ametuer ranks. Aaron was a regular finalist around this time  placing highly in local pro ams and State Titles.He was also highly competitive in the Newcastle Bodyboard Club which attracted the best talent around the beaches of Merewether.
