Every now and then The Northshore can become a little hectic so some of the boys like to jet off to one of the outer islands for a quick escape. This day the waves were firing all along the beach in a series of A Frames. The crew consists of Hubb, Maligs, Eppo, Burkes and a few local friends. The current was ridiculous so they used a car as a shuttle to take the boys back up to beach drop them off then pick them up once they drifted way down the line and then start over. It was impossible to paddle against the rip this day. Photo Stroh late 90s.

Chris Burkhart is your typical Hawaiian, a big smile and full of Aloha. Coming from Kauai The Garden Island Burkes soon earned a reputation as a formidable competitor who could mix it up in both big and small waves. As part of The Kauai Classic Team he trained and hanged out with Maligs and Harry. Burkes made a solid impact into the pro ranks and was a regular finalist winning his share of events. For a big boy Burkes was extremely flexible and never let his size become a drawback. Below scooping off the bottom at Pipe as always Bruddah Burkes making his presence felt. Photo Stroh mid 90′s

Chris Burkhart comes from the Island of Kaua’i. He was one of the Kaui Classic Team and was a strong pro competitor throughout the late 80′s and most of the 90′s winning his share of events. Chris is your typical Hawaiian. With a huge smile, he had a big frame and plenty of ability in big or small waves. One of Burke’s main assets was his flexibillity, for an XL man he was a freak. Burkes starred in the video “Fuel” and was full of aloha. He ripped hard no matter the conditions or whether he was on the crowded Northshore or the perfect secret spots back home on Kaua’i.
